We vigorously protect our copyrights, trademarks, patents and other intellectual property rights, and we’re at the forefront in the fight against software piracy. We work closely with respected business associations like Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) and Business Software Alliance (BSA) to combat software piracy worldwide. 4 ways to report piracy

  1. Email us at piracy@filemaker.com
  2. Fill out our online reporting form.
  3. Report suspected piracy online to BSA at www.bsa.org. FileMaker is a member of the BSA.
  4. Report suspected piracy to SPA Anti-Piracy (SPA), a division of SIIA at 1-800-388-7478 or report online. FileMaker is a member of the SIIA.

What does FileMaker do when you report software piracy?

  • Your lead is reviewed by the FileMaker legal department.
  • FileMaker actively investigates any organization or individual you report.
  • The FileMaker legal department may recommend several different actions, from a warning letter to criminal prosecution.
  • Stopping someone from illegally distributing software can be a lengthy process, often taking many months.
  • FileMaker does not give out any rewards for information on software piracy, but the information you provide may be very important in stopping a crime.
  • FileMaker will not disclose your identity except in rare cases that may be required in a legal process.

Are there legal penalties for software piracy?

Yes, software piracy is a crime. Here are some of the actual damages experienced by copyright owners:

  • Recovery of the profits from any illegal sales
  • Federal statutory damages as much as $150,000 per infringement
  • For criminal piracy, felony prosecution with fines up to $250,000 and prison terms up to five years
