Troi Automatisering releases Troi File Plug-in 3.0.1 for FileMaker Pro 7

Automatisering today announced the availability of the final version
of Troi File Plug-in for FileMaker Pro 7. Troi File Plug-in 3.0.1
makes use of the new extended plug-in API of FileMaker 7. Calls to
the plug-in's functions can now support Unicode and more and bigger
parameters.


What is Troi File Plug-in?

Troi File Plug-in is a very powerful tool for getting access to
information outside the FileMaker Pro database. Any files or folders
stored on the computer can be accessed through the functions of the
plug-in.

All from within FileMaker you can:
- get data from files that are on the disk of the computer into FileMaker Pro
- create files anywhere on the hard disk and put data from FileMaker
fields into them
- manipulate files and folders on the disk: this includes creating,
deleting, copying, moving and modifying files and folders
- query detailed information of files: the size on disk, creation and
modification dates and much more
- launch files with their appropriate application directly from FileMaker Pro

Peter Baanen, company president, states: "This extensive plug-in,

FileMaker Pro 7. Our users have been eagerly waiting for the final

New Features

Troi File Plug-in 3.0.1 has these features (compared to the classic plug-in):
- The plug-in uses the native External Function API of FileMaker Pro 7.
- The plug-in functions now have a size limit of 1 Gb per parameter
(up from the total of 64000 character limit for all parameters in
FileMaker 6!)
- Each function now supports Unicode characters.

The main changes since the last beta are:
- Changed spaces in the name of the plug-in to underscores, to ensure
better compatibility with the auto update functionality of FileMaker
Server.
- (Mac OS X) Improved handling of full paths with higher Unicode
characters in them. Files with higher Unicode characters in the name
are now also found by the Search function.
- Improved handling of long filenames.
- Improved the FullPathToFileSpec function.
- Improved several example files and converted the ImageImport.fp7
and Import1Image.fp7 example file to work with FileMaker 7.
- Added the user guide.


Suggested Uses

- Batch import of any text file, anywhere
- Let the user select a folder and process the contents of this folder
- Create a web site by exporting multiple HTML files
- Update solutions, by moving database files into place
- Read and write custom formatted files, for example from legacy systems
- Catalog complete projects, including pictures, and the meta data
like EXIF and IPTC


Classic version still available

Please note that Troi File Plug-in 2.8 is also still available. This
version makes use of the 'classic' plug-in API. Users that upgrade to
FileMaker 7 but don't yet want to rewrite their scripts calling the
File Plug-in functions can use this version. The 2.8 version also
runs on FileMaker 6 and 5.x.

Fully functional versions of Troi File Plug-in 3.0.1 and Troi File
Plug-in 2.8 are available for downloading at Troi's web site at:

Troi File Plug-in 3.0.1 works with FileMaker Pro 7. The plug-in also
runs with runtimes from FileMaker Developer 7. The plug-in is
available for Mac OS X (10.2.8 or later) and for Windows 2000
(Service Pack 6) or Windows XP.

Troi File Plug-in 2.8 works with FileMaker 5 and later. The plug-in
is available for Mac OS 9.1 or later, including Mac OS X (10.1.5 or
later), and for Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4), or Windows XP. The
plug-in should also run without problems on any machine that is able
to run FileMaker Pro 4.0, FileMaker Pro 4.1 and runtimes from
FileMaker Developer Edition 4.0 and later.

Licenses cost US$ 59 per user. The registration you receive after
paying the license fee will work with version 3.0.1 as well as with
version 2.8!

Product updates from version 2.7.1 and earlier, bought on or after 28
June 2003, are FREE: eligible users have been sent a new registration
string. Upgrades from version 2.7.1 or earlier, bought before 28 June

Lunchtime session at FileMaker Developer Conference

Paul de Hallé, of Linear Blue, UK and Peter Baanen will be presenting
a session, which features Troi File Plug-in 3, at the FileMaker
Developer Conference in Phoenix titled: Moving to FileMaker Pro 7
with Native Troi Plug-ins.
Please note that this session is on the first conference day, Monday,
August 30th at 1:00 PM during lunch! We don't mind if you bring your
plate, if you don't make eating noises.


Other updates

We also recently updated two other plug-ins: Troi Activator Plug-in
and Troi Text Plug-in.

Troi Activator Plug-in 1.4.1 is a very powerful tool for triggering
scripts across the network, even over the Internet. It can also
trigger scripts on the same computer, at a scheduled time or after
exiting a field. Troi Activator Plug-in 1.4.1 is an update which
fixes some bugs and errors in the example files. It is recommended
that all users of 1.4 update to the new version.

Troi Text Plug-in 2.7.2 is a very powerful tool for dealing
efficiently with text in your FileMaker Pro database. It adds
SumText, Set Creation, Lines and Word functions and XML Parsing. Troi
Text Plug-in 2.7.2 is an update which fixes some bugs and errors in
the example files. It is recommended that all users of 2.7 update to
the new version.
