Education Corner

Solution profile: KAMAR School Management System

KAMAR is one of New Zealand’s most popular and successful school administration software solutions. First developed ten years ago by teacher Kent Lendrum initially as a markbook and reporting package for Mount Maunganui College, KAMAR has since evolved into a fully-featured and integrated school management system approved by the New Zealand Ministry for Education.

Built in FileMaker Pro, KAMAR School Management System integrates:

1. All a school’s administration needs such as contact details, attendance, class lists, pastoral and health information,

2. Full academic markbook capabilities for recording student results, curriculum objectives, key competencies and requirements for national assessment milestones such as NCEA

3. Reporting facilities for comments, attitudes and attendance information linked with academic results, extra-curricular information, awards and other achievements, all of which can be produced as printed, email, online or PDF reports.

4. The leading school library package Athenaeum Pro for tracking books borrowed against individual student records and barcode scanning

A new feature is a traffic light system (red, amber, green), which allows teachers greater control over which assessments a student is registered for, down to the individual student.

KAMAR is currently used by 10,500 teaching and administration staff in 180 New Zealand schools from Kaitaia to Invercargill, ranging in size from just 30 students to over 2500 students and 150 staff.
