New Videos: Live the Bento Life!

Are you curious about who can benefit from Bento, FileMaker’s new personal database for the Mac, and the kinds of things that can be organised with it? There are now four new Bento videos, each profiling a different type of Bento user, which can help you get the most out of your Bento experience.

Each video features a different Bento user and highlights how Bento helps them stay organised.

The first video explores how Bento helps a business owner to manage unlimited client details, organise projects, and see appointments and upcoming events related to each client—all from the one place. Another depicts Bento’s role in helping a music teacher keep track of the different types of information that march across his desk every day—from instruments on loan to student performance videos. The third shows how students can use Bento to keep information related to each class at their fingertips—from lecture notes to group project details to file and photos of her completed projects. And the final video highlights how busy professionals can use Bento to keep track of the status on every project in progress.

Sohnar’s Innovation Rewarded By The Queen

FileMaker developer, Sohnar, has been awarded a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in London. The Queen’s Award for Enterprise recognises the outstanding achievements of UK companies in international trade, innovation and sustainable development with winners invited to attend an evening at Buckingham Palace.

A judging panel considered 802 applicants for the Queen’s Award and selected only 139 companies for the honour. From that group, Sohnar was one of 42 rewarded for innovation. The criteria for the innovation category included outstanding innovation, sustained over at least two years or continuous innovation and development, sustained over at least five years.

Sohnar Managing Director, Tracy Shirtcliff, says, “Getting the Queen’s Award is one of the highest accolades a business can get—that’s what I call fantastic.”

Sohnar was launched from an Australian back-bedroom in 2003 and is now a multi-million dollar business with offices in London, Sydney and New York. Its product, Traffic, has customers in nine countries and is a highly effective management system for creative agencies built in FileMaker Pro.

Education Corner

KAMAR New Zealand Education Conference

On May 12th and 13th 2008, FileMaker developer KAMAR hosted its annual conference for New Zealand school teachers and administrative staff at Rotarua’s Distinction Hotel and Conference Centre. This year’s event was a resounding success with more than 300 delegates attending from 115 KAMAR schools all over New Zealand.

The focus of the two day conference was the introduction of KAMAR’s latest version of school management software, built on FileMaker 9, and covered a number of new features and the product’s integration with Athenaeum Pro, Sumware Consulting’s School Library Management Package. In addition delegates participated in a range of breakout sessions on KAMAR features including the Pastoral Care module, Groups, Awards, Letters, Printing, Events Planner, Markbook, Timetabling, Progress Reports, Library and Fees.

The conference also provided the teachers and administrators with the opportunity to meet and share ideas with other KAMAR schools, giving them insight into how to best use the school management system.

Kent Lendrum of KAMAR commented, “This year’s KAMAR conference was our biggest yet. It was great to meet and talk face to face with users of our software who had travelled from all over New Zealand to see all the changes coming in the next version as we take advantage of the new features available in FileMaker 9.”

Some positive feedback has been received from a number of delegates, below are a few examples:

“Congratulations on a very well organised and enjoyable conference”

“The conference was especially great for a school that has just started to use KAMAR”

“Thanks ever so much for organising such a fantastic conference”

“I thought it was really well run and organised and extremely useful and informative”
