Security: Unified, role-based access. External network authentication via Active Directory or Open Directory. Data encrypted between FileMaker Pro and FileMaker Server using SSL.
Data Exchange: ODBC, JDBC, XML with Xalan/Xeres, XSLT and live integration with Microsoft® SQL Server 2000, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Oracle 9i, Oracle 10g, and MySQL 5.0 Community Edition. Field types: Text, Number, Date, Time, Timestamp, Container (for sound, picture, movie, documents including Microsoft Word or Excel files, Adobe Acrobat PDF files, PowerPoint presentation files and so on), Point and Click Calculations, Unstored Calculations and Summary. Options are available to modify field behaviors (for example, date formatting options or serializing numbers) and to modify storage, for example to provide global fields or unstored calculation fields.
File formats for import: Excel, FileMaker Pro, Tab-Separated Text, Comma-Separated Text, SYLK, ODBC, DBF (dBASE), DIF, WK1, WKS, BASIC, Merge.
Picture formats for import to Container fields: JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, Metafile (Windows only), Enhanced Metafile (Windows only), EPSF, PICT, TIFF, JFIF, JPEG 2000 (Mac OS X only), PDF (Mac OS X only), QuickTime movies and other formats supported by QuickTime (PSD, FlashPix, QIF, SGI, TGA, MacPaint).
File formats for export: Excel, Tab-Separated Text, Comma-Separated Text, SYLK, DBF (dBASE ), DIF, HTML, WK1, WKS, BASIC, Merge, XML, FileMaker Pro.
Reporting: Save as PDF, Save as Excel. Report and Layout Assistant produces banded sub-summary reports, mailing labels, forms and more.
